740 Turbo & high-output one-wire alternator 700

Hi all,

Considering a one-wire 105 amp GM alternator for my '85 B230FT. I read a brief comment on another site recommending against uswith ECU-controlled engines, but the site didn't address Volvos specifically. Accordingly, I'm seeking comments and/or advice from folks here in Volvoland. Thanks in advance.

Around here a used 100 amp alternator for a '90 740 turbo costs $30. The reasonable price is due to the fact that there are plenty of good used 740 alternators.

In my experience 740 alternators are good for 200,000 miles, wouldn't that be easier than going GM?

Turbo Bricks has a page that talks about using a GM Alternator and converting it to a 140 Amp jobber. Just a thought, since you are looking for Volvo guru suggestions/alternatives for alternators.

Hope this helps,

Tim
