I am looking to add a lower chassis brace to my 740 wagon. From the picture of a 760 turbo in the haynes manual, I see that some had this brace. Does anyone know which models I should look for in the junk/recycling yard?

    Hello all,

    I think that the lower brace came stock on the Euro model and as an accessory in North America. So George is correct since he lives in Belgium. W.Garland is also correct for saying that his 16V did not have one because it was born in Canada.

    Oh, If you don't have a brace now, why don't you try the FAQ for John Sargent's home brew - lower chassis brace that looks strikingly similar to a company that name starts with a fruit! That is what I am going to try very shortly.

    Any turbo will have them and I think the 16 valve too.

      My 1990 16 valve did not have a brace when I bought it used and it looked like it never had. It does now though. BTW, I can't tell the difference before and after adding an upper and lower brace. Guess I don't drive aggressively enough to benefit. One of these days I will redo the bushings, shocks, add better sway bars. Till then I will likely remove the braces since I think they add a resonant buzz at about 120 km/hr, perhaps because the upper brace lies close to the engine bits on the 16 valver.

        I noticed a significant improvement in tracking with the strut brace installed. My son reports the same. The car no longer wants to follow the seams, or tire grooves, in the highway surface.
