Hyper tach 1800

My tachometer has since I've owned it been about 3000 fast. When I'm on the freeway its mostly in the red. Itook it apart one and cleaned the components with alcohol without luck. Are they fixable?

Dave;

As Chuck mentions, there is a calibration pot which needs to be adjusted...however when the tach is that generous, it is typically caused by the wiper on the pot being open due to corrosion which occured over time...I recommend exercising the pot a bit, and then lubing it to prevent reoccurance...you need to get access to the pot (without bunging up the tach housing), and for additional info and details, see also:

What year? Differences between earlier and later tachs.

Look at the back of the tach. The wire should be looped (a coil effect). If not, that may be your problem. Not really familiar with the early tachs, I have a '71.

If the 1800 tach is like the small one mounted in the 240 1980 vintage there is a small adjuster screw that you can trim to a known good tach RPM reading. I used my old Sears engine analyzer and matched the gauge reading to it. A small amount of turning changes the pointer position, go small amounts at a time.
The adjuster is not labled on mine, but its there, a small silver screw type pot. Good Luck...
