This has been driving me crazy all day....some guy came up to me at a car show and evidently knew that I like Volvos. After establishing that yes, I did, he proceeded to tell me that a guy at a transmission shop has "two fiberglass Volvos. You know, with the one piece body, like a Corvette, for sale." What's he talking about?? Should I be interested? I'm going to look tomorrow, but need more info if anyone can help. Thanks!

        For one thing there are mighty few of them, since very few were made
        and practically none survive (maybe a dozen, probably less).
        They had the B16 engine which only has 3 main bearings and is not amenable
        to nearly as much hopping up as the B18/B20, so the most you could hope for
        is probably about 90-100 hp. Also has the same suspension as the 444,
        so it is not as beefy or readily upgraded as later models.

        There have been some other sports cars that used Volvo components
        in addition to the P1800, notably the Marcos. (look out for termites!)
        I knew a guy who put a B18 engine and matching tranny into an MG in Hawaii
        and had a pretty slick sports car.

    Hi,

    I saw a used one at a car lot in Denver CO in late 72--can't remember the year (or the cost) of the car. If I remember correctly, it was a light blue-green (aqua?), with a soft top. Top had leaked and the inside was pretty badly mildewed. That, together with the cracks in the fiberglass convinced my to keep looking . . . .

    żBeen reading your Rolling Mags?
    The P1900, built in the early 50s with 444 mechanicals, had a fiberglas
    body. Only a few were made and it was not much of a success, among other
    things because the body was not sturdy enough and cracked at the attachment
    points.

    I think there is a pic of one in the latest Rolling.

    I've never heard of a 'glass brick. That would be interesting for performance, would eliminate rust, but what about the heavy tank-like feel of our beloved bricks? Maybe you could attach pig iron to the fram of the 'glass one somehow to replicate the feel, Hah!
