tailgate wiring harness question 200 1983

Hi All,

Which side (driver or passenger) of the tailgate wiring harness controls the rear wipers? I need to replace or repair both sides as they are slowly failing, one component at a time.

the central locking is about the only component that still works.....

i know defrost/plate lights are on one side & central locks & wipers are on the other - just don't remember which is which.

thanks!

susan.

Just replace them both since you will have the tailgate off anyway. It's a common problem with wagons.

So what it the best way to remove that tailgate to replace the wiring harnesses?

Jerry is right. RS for wiper. Two wires, SB (Swedish for black) and GR. Both are hot at some time. The ground is inside the door itself.

Rear demist wire is DS hinge. It too grounds inside the door.

License plate lights are DS. Grounded inside the door.

There may be a wire through one hinge that's just a ground strap. Can't recall.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Try the passenger side. The wiring diagram for the 82 indicates thats the side that controls the wiper and central locking. Lights should be on the drivers side.
