coolant leak just behind water pump 700 1988

740 with b200e engine and I have a small beed of water/coolant leaking from the gasket just behind the top of the water pump, can this be solved or stopped without stripping the engine down to replace the gasket?

    Darren,
    As Steve says the most likely cause is the seal arrowed in the pic below.



    Just make sure you follow the instruction to force the new pump upwards as you tighten it.
    New pump only costs around £20 from after-market parts suppliers.
    I really must get around to replacing the one shown!

    That's the water pump o-ring. Best solved by replacing it. If the pump is aging, install a new one since they are so cheap. See the FAQ for information.
