Coolant Bypass hose removal 200

Hi all,

Im changing the water pump on my 87 240, and the coolant bypass hose does not want to come off.

I took out the nut and bolt holding the clamp in place. should i Just tap on the back of the water pump to move the pump forward, thus removing the hose?

I dont want to damage the hose, so i figured I would see if there's a good way to do this.

Thanks!

I'm not an expert, but that's what I did to remove my water pump earlier today. There is a small o-ring that goes around the coolant bypass hose and fits into the rear of the pump. This seal is probably stuck... along with the old gasket.

Double-check and make sure you removed ALL nuts and bolts. I missed one hidden underneath, next to that clamp. Once I got the last bolt out, I lightly tapped on the water pump to break the gasket seal, and the coolant bypass hose slid right out too.

Metal pipe, right? The end is stuck in with a square cross-section rubber seal ring, so it will be stubborn. You want to pry between the clamp welded to the pipe and the pump casting, but very carefully so you don't risk putting too much stress on the joint that might be in some state of decay.

This seal is easy to pinch and tear if not lubed and installed carefully on the assembly end of things. Caused me to limp home in a hurry one day after my first volvo water pump.
