'91740 distributor reseal job questions 700

I am resealing a distributor on a '91 740 N/A (195K car)
mainly need to know if shims are only on "inside" half ?
Or shims/fiber washer sets are on each half? it looks like one of the
2 fiber washers has disintegrated and I'll search for a steel / brass
replacement. It looks like 3 steel / 2 fiber sandwiched on inside under
drive dog. I just cant remember if side @ distributor was shimmed.

This is a cam driven distributor out of a '95 944Ti in the order of disassembly except for a small thin steel washer stuck to a larger one. I found it after I took the photo and I can't tell you where it goes. The fiber washer on the rotor side was sub paper thin and disintegrated. The fiber washer on the cam side was OK. On the left is the replacement O-ring and shaft seal.

I too would like to find a substitute fiber washer.

I'm not sure what it is for, other than for cushioning or a lubricant holder. I put it back together missing one fiber washer and added a few drops of oil.

Thanks for the pic on shim setup.
I also had 1 of the fiber washers broken apart

I put it all back together with a brass washer on
distributor side and original setup on inside.

Car runs fine and leaks no more, I can periodically
remove distributor cap to inspect brass washer to
make sure its holding up. Since I did'nt have a
replacement distributor and shims/washers are not
available there was not much else I could do.

      thanks again.
