driveshaft support 700 1987

i attempted to replace the support bearing and support last night with no success. The aftermarket support did not look anything like the original - it is made entirely of rubber and doesn't appear to bolt in anywhere. it doesn't look like the original. Has anyone used this with success.

As I figured i wouldn't make the fix last night I didn't attempt to separate the driveshafts after removing them from the car. Is there a trick to this separation? it looks like there is a very heavy duty dust cover that comes off towards the front of the driveshaft - is there a trick to getting this off - then what?

I think you need a press or something to replace that bearing. That's why I didn't do mine myself, and I talked to my mechanic about it and he did use a press when he did it.

The problem is not with the bearing but with the support for the bearing - the aftermarket replacement part has no obvious means of being attached to the frame of the car - is this by design?

My mechanic mentioned this to me also. He had to buy 2 parts. The first part he bought was just the bearing. So I'm guessing you need another piece.

I have this other piece, it is this piece that I am having problems with. It doesn't look like the factory original one that is currently on my car. It has some similarities - it has a place for the bearing to go, it consists of mostly rubber, and is generally circular but the replacement is much bigger than the original. Here is a picture of it:http://www.eeuroparts.com/images/saab/1209820.jpg

thanks

I hope someone else here knows more than me, because I'm stuck. Good luck.
