Voltage Regulator 1800

Where is the voltage regulator on my 1973 1800ES? I pulled the farthest cylindrical "brain" in a line of them out on the drive's side beneath the overhang and replaced it with a new rectangular voltage regulator. Was that the right part?

On the 72 1800 it is on the driver side under the hood on the side of the engine compartment. Its the one closest to the firewall with the three point connector. I think that it is the same on the 73. Internaly regulated alternaters were post 1800 models I think.

My bad. You are correct. Now that I think of it, I've actually replaced mine. Newer style has a slightly different connector, but they work.

On the later 1800's the regulator is internal to the alternator. Pull it and take it to your local chain auto parts store, they should be able to test it for you.
