240DL w/trunk loaded won't start 200

HI y'all,
I got the answer to my first strange problem from this board (buzzer going off
when I hit the brakes--brake lights were out!) but didn't see anyone else with this problem. I have a 1982 240DL. It was running ok until I put 100 pounds of feed in the trunk. Then it wouldn't turn over. I put the feed on the back seat and the car started right up and drove fine. Tried it again and if there's more than about 20 pounds' worth of stuff in the trunk it won't turn over.

Any ideas as to what this could be?
Thanks,
Holly

Holly, check the wires under the carpet on the left side of the car right where the truck steps up a bit. I bet you are shorting or somehow disconnecting the Fuel pump wires with the Feed Bags.

We ran into a problem on a 1984 244 where every time someone sat on the driver side of the back seat the fuse blew. Problem was most difficult to find, but it was the fuel pump (tank) feed wire which was smashed against a bolt head. It had been done long enough that the insulation wore through. With no one in the back seat the car ran perfectly.

The 240 series are loaded with electrical gremlins, especially the early and mid 80 series.

    Good luck,

    dick
