I have an 89 240 volvo with those plastic lenses on the headlamps. I've heard people using some compound to clean them. What cleaning solution can you recommend?

I know there have been lots of related posts here, but it seems like this should have been some kind of safety defect related recall! It's a defect that showed up early - within 5-6 years and 10 out of 10 cars of the plastic lense era have this defect.

I bet someone in the Feds has raised this issue with Volvo, and I also bet that Volvo's lawyers' answer was that the deterioration of the headlights was "obvious" rather than being "latent" or "concealed". Therefore, once the cars were out of warranty the problem was the owners' responsibility--just like replacing bulbs that fail or wiper blades that crumble.

I'm not saying that, in a just world, that should be an acceptable response. But I suspect that is how Volvo has gotten off the hook on this item.

mothers aluminum polish or eqivlent as paint type compounds wont do any thing and plastic polish is not gritty enuff hope this works for you

I've heard of guys using,of all things, toothpaste! I'm going to try some plastic cleaner, but I'm prepared to buy some new ones if that doesn't work.

get prepaired to buy new than as toothpaste or plastic polish wont work. aluminum polish in paste form does i do it all the time as part of a detail good luck

if you search back a few pages you will see a lot if info on this subject all i can say is rub HARD and in a stright line no circles after aluminum polish you can try plastic polish to make it look better but this is not needed good luck and your welcome!
