muffled rattling noise from under gear box area 900 1995

My 95 960 just began to make a low muffled rattling noise that seems to be coming from under the gear box region. The rattle is constant when small washboard type of road. Also, when I apply the brakes and when I accelerate from a stop I hear a low muffled click. I tried to drive a bit with my door open to see if I can get bearing on where the noise is coming from but to no avail.

Any suggestions or similar problems.

Not sure if this applies to the AW30-40 in your car, but if this was an AW70 I'd suspect bad shifter bushings or a loose linkage rod. See this section of the FAQ for details.
