What's the deal with the big Virgos?? 200

Hi I was going through the gallery on brick board and I noticed some cars with large virgo wheels. These looked like they were 17" wheels. I want to know what are they, where are they from, and where to get them. Thanks

    Hello,

No, 17" Virgos do not exist. One could theoretically have a set custom made. I fact someone I know someone who was toying with widening a set to handle the 400+ hp that his V8 converted 245 was making. He was ultimately scared off by cost and balancing issues, and went with a set of wider wheels that Volvo actually makes.

There are several ppl recently(on cardomain as well) who have adjusted their wheels using photoshop. Although, if 17" Virgos existed, there would be several ppl, including me, who would line up for a set or two.

WITH ENOUGH MONEY ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE NO MATTER HOW CRAZY THE IDEA.

Wow, I wonder if they are indeed the famous Polaris rims at aaarims! If in stock (doubtful as others would have suggested this source), might be worth investigating.

Can you post a link to the photo? If it's the one I'm thinking of, someone was having fun with Photoshop.

        My opinion:
Has to be Photoshop. The proportions of the wheel look identical to the 15" Virgos on my car, but the lugnut circle is larger in proportion to the car than it should be. Also judging from the noise and pixelation on the Virgos compared to the rest of the photo, something has been done.
That clear front turn signal/marker light lens also looks highly suspect. Headlights look ok though.
(I'm not perfect, but I spend a lot of time with Photoshop for school and work)
And as a side note, if you photoshop your car or house or anything, slap a watermark on it so unsuspecting people don't get tricked... (please)

        Fact:
I've never seen or heard of 17" Virgos, but I would actually like a set of 16" Virgos. I'd really be perfectly happy with some Galaxys.
Checking some of the many lists of Volvo rims that fit the 240's doesn't yield anything but 15" Virgos. Sorry, don't have the links on hand, I'm in studio, but I've been pouring over them over the past couple months.

I had a set of 17" Volvo alloys on my '86 745T that the past owner had installed. I liked them, but on the drive up from Florida where I picked it up back to home in Connecticut it was quite clear when I got up into the frost belt again. Not the most comfortable ride, but worse I was always worried I was going to bend one.

No idea what the name of the wheel was, but it was the typical grey color and 6 spokes, I think. Car looked great with them.

I would try aaarims.com, I just went there, looked up 1992 all Volvos, and they list a 5 spoke 17 X 7 exposed lug wheel. The photo came up as an error, maybe next time they'll load. Pretty cheap at $228 per wheel with a $100 discount on four. No I don't work for them. Their part # 701761F.

I don't know if you would have clearance problems with this wheel, it's possible you will at the back. Keep asking around before you buy them.

    -Dylan

The wheels you mentioned on aaarims are 17 inch Polaris wheels.
They list them but probably don't stock them because they are hard to find.
They were the only 17 inch RWD wheels that volvo ever made.
