new break pads & rotors squeel and chirp 700 1987

After installing new pads and rotors in the front and using the orange goopy stuff for "anti rattle" my breaks still a rythmic squeek, squeek, squeek when slowing down and "chirp" when letting off the break peddle. I took the car to the shop and they did a light turning on the new rotors. This gave no improvement. Any ideas?

I've gone through all sorts of squeal problems with 740 brakes.
First of all make sure you installed the shims behind the pads. In the rear there are supposed to be 2 per side, the stainless steel shim and the black teflon shim. Use both with silicone brake grease between them.
In the front I once had a shim lose a corner and fall in toward the rotor, scraping on things. Make sure this hasn't happened. Make sure grease is used on both sides of the shim where it contacts the caliper pistons and fingers.

If nothing works, get Volvo pads. They're softer and squeal less. I found that one set of pads I had that came with a "loaded" caliper were just junk and I couldn't get them to shut up no matter what I did.

only sympathy, i did it on my 89 and they squeek for about 1000 miles then stopped for the most part, give it alittle let the pads wear in and see if it goes away. and remember you are trying to stop a volvo with those brakes.
