When I picked up my '88 745t in January a couple of the sealed beam assemblies needed replacement. The foil reflector had burned off on a hi and low beam.

I went the cheap route and picked up 4 new Sylvania sealed beams at Wal Mart for around $6 each. For less than $30 I had better overall lighting than that of my 850. Three month later, one of the highs has a lot of condensation on the the lens (not sealed?) and parts of the reflective coating on the two lows has vaporized.

Can anyone reccommend good replacements? IPD sells Cibie but at $60+ each they're beyond my budget.

The first upgrade to make for improving headlights is to add headlight relays. This is covered well on Daniel Stern's site<"/a>. The second upgrade is to E code H1 and H4 headlights. Mr. Stern also sells those.

Erwin,

You may want to keep an eye out on e-bay--a set of 4 cibies (2xH4 hi/lo and 2xH1 hi) went for 61 dollars plus shipping the other day. They seem to come up every once in a while (i bought a pair of cibie hi-beams on e-bay for around $20 last year).

I have run the sylvania xtra-vision in the past, and they're a pretty good light. The biggest difference is on the hi/lo units. Also, Cibie is FAR superior to the Hella lights in that format (4x6 rectangular)--at least IMHO.

Hope this helps.

Steve A-
