i would like to put differnt door speakers into my '87 sedan, i would like a pair that would fit into the door and still me to roll down my window. if the speaker fits the hole entirely, leaving no gap i do not care if my grill will fit on again. Does anyone know of such a speaker?? i am looking for bass.. If you have a picture please post. Thanks a ton!

Save yourself the trouble and get Infinity, you will not be dissapointed.

I would like to second the Infinity Reference and Kappas. I've got both kinds in my 245DL running off of 200W deck power and they sound amazing. I've got 4" Kappas in the front (they come with their own crossovers) and 6.5 References in the back. Buy them on Ebay, I spent about $125 for both sets. Next step is a subwoofer! Have fun.

I too have 6 1/2's on the rear deck with 4's in the front, both Kappa's. I am using seperate Poweracoustic amplifiers to run each pair. They aren't the best amps, but they were affordable, and make the infinity's sound great. I am looking for a decent subwoofer that doesn't take much space. Any suggestions?

If you want small look into the kicker solobarics. They're pricey and require a ton of power but they will take up next to no room. The other option I saw in a toyota camry. If you build a skinny sealed enclosure, I mena like 4 inches deep that covers the trunk side of the back seat and mount the sub in the middle with the magnet facing the rear bumper (pointing outside the box since the box is way to skinny to get the sub inside it) that would not take up much space at all plus the box would make for a cool place to mount the amps. I don't know what this would sound like but it looked pretty cool. I was thinking of trying this myself just to see. It's long enough that barced 3/4 inch MDF would be a must

It's almost impossible to get good sound out of an older Volvo using stock speaker locations. If your map pockets are in as bad of shape as mine were, toss 'em and add 61/2s down there. Keep the rear speakers smaller so as to keep sound stage up front (you wouldn't enjoy a concert if it sounded like the band was playing behind you). Anyway, I've used a number of different speakers over time in different cars and I swear by the Infinitys, both reference and kappa series. The Kappa you'll need to amplify and the references you can get away with deck power. Barring what I've said above, put 4s in the front and rear doors and amplify them, infinty kappas will take more power then any other coax unless you go to a sperate. Then filter out the lows and add a subswoofer. You'll end up losing your mid bass but that probably the easiest way.

I installed some Infinity Kappa 42.5 in the front doors. I needed to make a spacer out of 3/8" MDF, but it was easy. I painted the spacer black and it blends in well with the door.

Hi, I had great luck and fitted Sony 5 1/4" in the doors on my Turbo in place of stock 4", I did use some slight spacers (actually light switch spacers if, you know what they are) and had to cut on the door a bit with my Dremel but they work great; them coupled with a set of Sony 6x9s in the rear deck and some good power and they sound great. I've run them both with and without an amp and they were very good sounding with the amp giving them 75 watts (speakers rated at 45w and 65w I think). I've been using the built in amp in my head unit which gives them like 35w I think and they still sound good, although not as good. I would recommend not getting 4-way though, I think they have a little too much treble vs. the 3-way (which a friend of mine has). I have noticed that with the window down in front and bracing against the door panel with my knee that it can vibrate against the glass.
They came with their own (minimal) grills too. I'll see about sending you a pic.

I put a pair of 4" boston speakers in the front and then added a pair of 6X9s Bostons in the rear. You won't get much if any bass out of the 4"ers but the rears sound great. My daughter has a pair of Sony 6X9s in her car and they sound tinny compared to the Bostons. About the only way you are going to get more bass is to add some speakers to the rear deck.

This is a topic that has come up all the time. You can never get any real bass out of 4" speakers. You can however, get some 5" adaptors from a 91 or newer 240. Or you can buy or make some 6" adaptor/spacers to which some on this forum have done and would know alot on how this is done. As far as speakers go, I would have to say Boston makes some of the best speakers out there. I have a pair of RX97 6X9's in the rear deck that drowned out my 4" clarion frt door speakers, and these speakers really dont start to put out the bass till 50watts. I came across the 5" adaptors last week and looking to add some Boston RX57's soon.
