i've got to get my '90 240 wagon inspected next month and i'm having a few problems with the brake lights (among other things - but i love these 240's. wouldn't have anything else).
the center brake light (in the window) doesn't work at all, even though i just replaced the tailgate wiring harness. and while testing this today, i noticed that none of the brake lights were working. the side ones were working the other day. when i double cheked the bulb failure light was on (it hadn't been on before i fooled around with the tailgate harness today). took off the knee bolster and wiggled things around - the right and left ones worked!? put the bolster back on and they continued to work. tonight they don't work.
i don't know how much longer i can take these emotional ups and downs. i'm so excited about this new car (i just bought it last week, but i had some of the same probs on my '83)
anyone have any advice?

    Adam, take a very fine sandpaper and sand the flat points on the bulb socket/ holder and also the copper ring (on the board) that it screws into. I had spend hours trying to figure out why my backup and rear foglights didn't work. Finally I used a simple piece of sandpaper and they worked finally. Hope this helps you out!

    I think the problem's a bad brake light switch under the dash. Kinda hard to see up over the knee bolster. May just need to be adjusted to make good connection.
    Also, as noted, corrosion in the bulb sockets will cause trouble every time.

    First thing is to pull the bulb holders out of the tail lights. Clean all the contacts, including the bulb itself. A little oxidation will light up the bulb out light.
