Timing Issue 200

I have a 1985 240Ti B21FT engine and the Bently Man. said to set the timing at 12 degrees. My question is The marks show 10 degrees then a line then 20 degrees. So is the line 15 degrees and 12degrees is somewhere in between,or is the line 12 degrees? Charlie

Easiest way to check is to measure it.
If the middle line is equidistant from the 10deg & 20deg marks it must be 15deg.

Thanks guys,I don't know why Volvo didn't just put 4 lines between 10 degrees and the line.It would have made more sense insted of guessing where 12 degrees was.Maybe it was a cost issue.Ya right! Orrr thay just wanted someone to ask that question.

    Hey Charlie-

The line 'tween 10 and 20 is 15. Your timing mark should just about split the 15 mark and the 10. You can play around with it from there. Some people advance the timing a little on turbo motors, to lessen detonation at higher rpms. If the wastegate settings are stock and you don't rocket around like you rightly should in a Volvo, then the stock setting is fine.

If you have a vacuum advance on that distributor, I think you've got to disconnect it and plug the vacuum hose. Check a Haynes manual if there's one handy. Oh you've got a Bentley. Never mind. That's the right book. Wish they had one for the 7s and 8s.

    Have fun-
    Dylan
