fuel injector refurb? 200

I asked a local diesel injector shop if they could "refurbish" my injectors in my gas '84 244 (non-turbo). Since they were bosch, they thought so.

$18 a piece to clean, replace the screen, test and adjust for a matched set of four.

Since these are probably the original ones with 205K, does it make sense to renew? How do injectors last even when "clean?"

Once again, this forum in a lot of ways is the best place on earth.

It's worth it, The diesel injection shops usually us an ultrasonic cleaning setup that breaks loose all the stuff that in the tank cleaners can't touch and they normally put new caps and seals on them.
I had that done on my gas burner about 2 years ago and it ran great after.

They're really a pretty troublefree design. They wouldn't have lasted 200K if they weren't! (Think about this... at 3000 rpm, each injector fires 100 times a second... in an hour they've fired 36000 times..... in 200,000 miles it probably comes out to about 360,000,000 cycles!)
It's a low-wear part. It's possible for there to be some deposits on them or a tiny bit of crud blocking some flow. They aren't really likely to wear out but they could need a cleaning. There are lots of other things I'd spend money on first to make sure the car runs perfectly.
One of the main things is vacuum leaks, and the injectors can come into play here because there's a rubber seal around each one- it can leak and cause mixture changes by introducing excess air into the intake.
New seals are $3 each. It also wouldn't hurt, and will help if there's any deposits, to run a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner through the system. That's about $12 per bottle.
I think that's about all you need.

I'm into going the extra mile. I have a newly polished intake (mainly inside) that I will put on with new vacuum lines. This should breathe as good as new.

if i remember corectly from the race days a polished intake runner will cause more internal drag as opposed to a rough surface meaning air/fuel pass at a faster rate on a rough surface much like a golf ball flys farther with the divets than a smoth surface . the polished intake the air will travel slowly as it is in more contact with the intake hence (internal drag)porting or matching the runners to head is all thats needed same with exaust match the holes in head to exaust manifold . shaving the bottom is a must as this will raise compresion a little bit not much thow if your looking for HP that is
