Buying a 740 Estate 1988 Reg. 900 1991

Any advice on any problem areas to look at.
Just had a new exhaust and tyres fitted and the overdrive was overhauled a few years ago. Looks quite clean. Done 140,000 miles.
IS the Gle the one to look for?

Many thanks

See the 700/900 FAQ for info. If the GLE has the B234 16-valve engine, expect to spend more time and funds on timing and balance shaft belt changes, which are critical in this engine. The basic B230 is much more forgiving.

erm...not neccesserily so steve, in the uk (giveaway here is it is E reg) GLE is a trim spec NOT an engine standard...I havent actually seen a 16 valve 7' over here, and certainly we have had 2 GLE's in out family with 8 valve engines...one a 88 one a 91...

the 940 certainly did come with the 16 valve, but I dont think again the GLE related to engine - more to trim spec.

In the UK the GLE whas just about everythign going accept air-con, although undoubtably this was available as an extra...
