240 starter doesn't engage 200

The 244 had a 50kph head on collision, and the insurance company has now towed it to our house so I can take out the stereo. I want to see if it still runs nicely and moves, but it won't start. They had disconnected the battery of course, and I found that they had disconected the two smaller wires that go to the starter. I connected those, trying both ways but still no start. When I turn the key to start, nothing happens, no click no nothing. If it is the neutral safety switch, is there any way to just disengage it?----I just want to see if the car starts, etc. I don't plan to drive it. What other wires could they have disconnected? Is there a simple way to get it to turn over?
Thanks!

Try starting it in Neutral. It ought to work. If the front end's bent enough, or the engine ripped it's mounts out, the shifter could very well be misaligned. Try holding the key and moving the shifter down from P all the way to D. Somewhere along the way it has to engage, if the switch is still any good. IF not, you can jumper the starter solenoid wire to the battery cable lead either right on the starter or with a length of wire from the + terminal.

Engine mounts are soft and designed to pull apart in a crash, so it's possible that it's just way out of line. Also happens when they're just old and they sag or fail.

240 starter doesn't engage 200

I am working on my dad's 93 240 with an auto in it right not. Same problem minus the accedent. I just came in to make the same post that you did so I will be intrested to find out what the results are. I have the neutral safety switch out right now and I belive it is good, I am thinking that the strter might be bad, I tryed jumping the positive lead to on the starter to the little spade connector right next to it. Nother happend..... I think that is supposed to make the starter at least jump, There are 4 wires on the neutral safety swich, is there 2 of them that I can connect to just bypass that switch untill I get the car running?
Thanks

Hi,
I got mine to start. I removed the drivers side right kick panel, near the bottom there is a black connector, and on one side of that is two solid blue wires. I just shoved a wire in the connector so that the two blue wires were connected, then it started.
