Turbo smoke? 200 1984

Turbo wagon at 236K is starting to smoke from the exhaust. Car runs like a watch and has great get up and go for her age. Intake hose is very oil soaked. Is the turbo starting to go and/or are the seals leaking? Worth fixing and probable cost and do it yourself time and effort?? Thanx guys! This site rocks! ;o)

It could be the turbo if the blue hoes are oil soked.Pull them off and look inside also the one going to the throtle body.If there is oil in them then it's a sign oil is going past the seals in the turbo.I just replaced the turbo cartridge in mine last wed.took me about 7 hours.I had a nother turbo that I cleaned and put the new cartridge in which made the job a lot easyer.I got the cartridge off Ebay $125.00 form Bama Bev if you need any imfo email me dobbsc@webtv.net. If the intake hose is soaked with oil then its possible that the turbo seals are bad, but my turbo has a lot in the intake hose and in the intercooler but it doesn't smoke and seems to work fine. I don't know if the oil in the hoses is common. Turbo problems can be very expensive to fix. I would try to get a good used one if you decided that the turbo has gone bad. One other thing I would check is the compression on the cylinders. This is a cheap and easy test to do. All you need is a spark plug wrench and a compression guage.

first, next tank of gas keep in mind how much gas mileage you get. i had a lot of black smoke from my turbo, like a lot, and i changed the 02 sensor and it was completely fixed. also, your seals in the turbo could be wearing out and it is spitting oil out (shot turbo possibly) so if you are losing oil but its not dripping that might be the case. check those 2 out thast my best bet.
