headlamp heat problem 200 1987

okay, ive checked the faq's and past posts, but i havent found anything relating to this particular problem. the headlights on my 87 240 work fine for about 20 or 30 minutes of driving... after that, they simply stop functioning. this must be related to increased under-the-hood temperatures.

where should i begin to solve this problem?

If the high beams still work, I suspect the large silver relay with the curved corners, by the battery/hot plinth.
