my 240 has a clock A CLOCK wich is kinda grandpop looking i would like to put a tach in the car.I can get the ins.panel at a junk yard from a240 turbo. Does my 85 240DL have the wires instaled and just not used or would i have to install new wires.Im hopeing every thing i need is in the dash if not i can i use the wires from the turbo im getting the tach from? THANKS

    There's a white or gray w/red stripe wire that's not connected to anything behind the dash. Simply find it and plug it into the bottom of the tach (if your "new" tach has two connectors, either will work).

    As for the three spade connectors at the top, you should see a wiring harness connected to it. It runs from the tach to the small clock. Grab the small clock, gauge bezel, and the three small rubber "feet."

    Then you're all set with a tach and small clock. It's fairly easy to install.

      Don't forget the little plug! I scavenged several of these recently and forgot to get the little plug that covers what used to be the clock adjusting mechanism. I suppose it would work without it but you'd eventually get dust and stuff behind the plastic that covers the instruments.

    When I did this for my 92 it had an unused red wire if i'm not mistaken near the rear of the clock. You just remove the clock wire and install the other. Good Luck.

      thanks and was wondering this small clock where would it go (small feet?) and do i need to run the small clock

        goes in the upper of the two 2x2 square panels. It will fit the lower panel, but car-wide visibility is less.

          I just installed a tach on mine last week. I have a 88 240. The wire behind the instrument cluster was white with a red stripe on it. Its very simple to install. I also installed a voltmeter and an oil pressure gauge. waiting for the oil pressure sender to come in the mail now. I cant wait!!!
