88' 744 Auto Transmission Mount Replacement 700 1988

I need to replace the transmission (automatic) mount on my 88' 744 non-turbo. Is is feasible to do this in a driveway with basic tools, or should I let my local Volvo mechanic do it? It is my understanding that there is only one tranny mount on this auto...

Thank You,

Mike

From the 700/900 FAQ: Transmission Mount Replacement. [Editor] The rubber transmission mount will compress over time and need replacement. To do this, support the front of the car on jackstands. Place a jack under the transmission pan with a board to distribute force and jack up enough to support the transmission. Remove the rear support cross member and change the transmission mount, reinstalling in reverse order. Trans Mount replacement 700/900 FAQ

note: DO NOT use your tranny fluid pan to do it, especially on the drain bolt.

Well, that is advice directly opposite to what is found in the FAQ.

Where do you propose that the transmission should be supported instead of the pan?

Oops, sorry, I think I'm thinking of jacking up the front of the car using the engine's oil pan. :-)

Yep, use the tranny fluid pan, but try and stay away from the drain bolt area. I know the drain bolt on the tranny pan is recessed, but nevertheless. Sorry about that!
