heater valve for non-aircon car replacement 700

NOTE copy of post in 900 section, just though i might have more luck here...

let me say up fron this is the cable operated valve on the inside of the firewall NOT the vacume operated valve fitted to aircon cars....

I seem to have a leak fro m teh valve area (damp carpets etc & white crystal under the valve) but looing at it I cant work out how in the world to get it out...its a large black plastic affair with a quarter circle arc of movement...its mounted on a metal bracket that is bolted thru the fire wall...but the bracket also looks like it mounts the heater matrix and I really really dont think i wana mess with that unles i HAVE too... It could just be the seal on the lower internal pipe from the valve, but if it is I would still like to get the valve out and clean the neck up...

anyone ever pulled one of these????

PS...turbo return pipe still leaking oil & it just took me 2 straight days to replace the old alarm system....I could get to hate this car....

I think I remember reading here about 240s with cable-controlled, inside-the-firewall heater valve. Seems odd that you would have that on your 940... but I guess stuff like that happens. Maybe try searching through 200-series posts here, or check swedishbricks.com... lots of 200-series info there.

What's up with your turbo drain line leak? thought your mech was going to take care of that...

Good luck & hang in there...

    - Brian

the cable controlled heater valve was standard fit on all 7's & 9's without aircon..(actually mine has aircon but thats a differnt & weird story)

the turbo drain...I havent had time to get the car to the mech...im on holiday and the 1/2 day alarm fit ended up taking 2 days.....

still i have remote locking, microwave sheilding inside and out, shock sensing(2 stage) current drop sensing, bonnet pin, imobaliser, and LED's on the column cover and drivers door (naty flashing blue ones!)...still got to do the pasenger door...cant get the plastic well trim out...seems to be stuck together..think someone may have dropped a fizzy drink in there....
Oh and i (finally) wired up the fluid loss sensor while i was at it to a nice LOUD buzzer...)

It was doing this that led me to remove the floor mat and find the damp carpets

Odd: the manual shows a circular valve with two hoses going to the heater core. It has two pipes that pierce the firewall, connecting to the heater hoses from the engine on the other side. It does NOT appear connected directly to the heater core.

    Where is your car? UK?

      hi steve,

      yep im uk based...

the firewall has a plate attached that has two pipes pierceing the firewall. The top pipe has a hose connected to the outside of the firewall, and one to the inside - this hose then goes to the heater core. The lower piercing has a hose connected on the engine bay side ofthe firewall, but on the indide has a large plastic valve apperatus, then a hose connected to the output ofthis that goes to the heater core. All hose joints are secured with 'jubilee' type clamps...

the valve itself has a arm that is rotate thru approx 90 degrees by the cable from the controls.

all this is supported on a metal plate that is succured by two studs passing thru the firewall into the engine bay, they emerger approx between the top and bottom heater hoses. This plate also has a right angled 'ledge' under the hoses that runs to the heater core (perhaps supports it). Now Im hopping I can remove the palstic control valve rather than have to take off that plate (if it does link into the core ...) I would also say its all in a complete PITA place above the pedal box....

Yep, you got it. It doesn't appear as difficult as it looks. Here's what the manual says:

-disconnect battery ground and remove left side dash under panel and air hose
-clamp off lower hose from valve to heater core
-clamp off lower hose in engine compartment then disconnect
-place cloth on carpet to soak up spilled coolant
-remove lower hose inside car connected to valve
-remove control housing from water valve
-remove plastic valve by rotating clockwise. Unhook cable

        to install:
        -reconnect cable to water valve
-install valve by placing it on the mount and turning counterclockwise
-mount and adjust the control housing
-reconnect hoses under dash and in engine compartment
        -remove hose clamps

If you are a midget with tiny hands, it should be a piece of cake.

          thanks steve,

hmm...seems like it comes out by rotating it...well think i will print this off and get in there with a light tommorow and see if it makes more sense looking at it...

          thanks for the info...

now i wonder how much a new one is from the dealer....
