k&n air filter ??? 700 1992

Good Evening.

Just picked up a k&n air filter panel for my wagon. I did install it but i was wondering about all the sponges/Guts under the filter? Should i remove the guts or leave it alone.

Thanks.

You can pull out all that foam if you like. Some people claim removal helps air flow... I doubt there's a big gain, but it can't hurt. Just make sure you don't leave any bits behind that could get sucked through you AMM and turbo compressor.

If it's anything, removing the foam allows more surface area to be exposed to the air flow. The dirt collecting on the filter won't get concentrated in the middle area.

Use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the crap that's built up at the bottom.

it's also been said that when that foam eventually breaks apart it will burn up on the AMM filament.
DOn't know whether it's there to help improve flow or reduce noise but I didn't notice any difference after removing it.

the AMM issue i believee applies to the thin foam in the box lid rather tan the thick section in the box body...
the foam has a variety of purposes/uses...

it will cut induction noise, it can also (to a small extent) function as a filter itself, one of the most important features is to help prevent condensation build up/dribble leading to water in the bottom of the box (used to be a swine on metal boxes...) Isuspect it may also have a function in limiting water ingress in the event of large puddles etc and preventing a possible hydro-lock...
