Fuel connection rubber flap 1989 780 700

Maybe mine is upside down..not sure..but the place where you put the fuel when you open the fuel door..has a rubber grommet around the metal fuel filler pipe.
It is on the bottom and catches all the rainwater...is it upside down. should the rubber flap be on the top or botton. Thanks

I had a '90 745 Gl that collected water in that area. I could not clear the drain, so I took it apart. I found a rubber stopper that connected the drain. The hoses entered the stopper, but the center of the hole was never punched out. I pushed the offending rubber bit out and the drain worked fine.

The flap is supposed to be on the bottom. It's supposed to catch the gas that you spill when you're done pumping gas.
If yours collects water, it's not draining out. There's a little tube going down the inside of the trunk to a plastic drain out the bottom of the outer trunk floor. It also has the drains from the sunroof going to it, or next to it. If water stands in it, the drain hose is clogged- pull it off and put a coat hanger wire or something similar through it.
