How often to ICU's or ECU's go bad??? 200 1988

What are the chances I somehow fried the ICU or the ECU on my '88 244 159K during my changing of the Valve cover gasket last weekend.

I changed the VC gasket and replaced the fuel pump relay...I do regret to say I recall I did not unhook the battery during all of this. Also I had put the cap plug wires on incorrectly, but later relized it and corrected the order. still no running (car starts but no running).

Aye Roll suggested the crank sensor (I am assuming this is the same as the hall sensor which lies under the plastic piece under the ign. rotor, right?) could have gone bad. Is this easy to test?

I have changed the cap, rotor, wires, FPR, in-tank pump and all the fuses in the fuse box. the 25amp fuse was recently replaced and cleaned as well. the main pump runs when starting, all vacuum hoses are in place and haven't been touched. The throttle body switch has been adjusted to click when supposed to.
Ign. and Fuel grounds have been sanded and re-attached to make sure they are solid. I was getting a blue spark, but last night it is now orangeish colored. The ign. coil checks out ok with ohms, plus I get spark. I get fuel as well.

Any suggestions? Any tips?
TIA to everyone,
Chuck
