Clunk right rear 900 1991

My car, a 1991 940SE with independent rear suspension and Nivomat shocks, has developed a clunk in the right rear. The clunk is pronounced when the car goes over speed bumps, but not all bumps. There is no sagging on the right. I checked the trunk for loose items--there is none. Any ideas? Thanks.

have you pulled the wheel off and inspected underneath, usually the only noise youll get from an independant rear suspension is from the 3 mounting bushing and theyll made the noise under hard acceleration. like a driveshaft noise. but on your model i have seen the emergency brake picot inside the rear rotor make a noise on bumps, the next time yoiu drive over a bump you know will make the noise just pull up gently on the e brake handle and see if its quiet,

I took thwe car to a shop specializing in suspensions etc. and they informed me that the right coil spring was broken. I suspected as much because of the metallic , scraping sound coming from the rear. I have ordered the part from FCPGroton and the shop will install it. I'm relieved it was just a spring. Thanks for your help.

I adjusted the parking brake which was loose by turning the big nut in the console clockwise. I was surprised to be able to turn it by hand--does this mean anything? I thought I would have needed a spanner to do this. The noise comes from the rear right side.
