Help, Removing radio in 88' 240 200

Hi all,

I got my new car home, and it is great. The thing is nearly flawless, and runs perfect (not bad for 950.00! :-) ). The radio is cutting in and out and I have an extra cd player I would like to install. How do you get the factory radio out without damaging the surrounding plastic inserts. To they just snap out if I get a screw driver behind them? I just don't want to marr them up, they are in really nice shape. If someone could just walk through the process of removing the radio that would be great. Thanks!

They didn't mention that there is usually a strap on the back of the radio. You have to remove the glovebox to get at it. You will see the side of the radio and the strap (phillips head screw). You can pull the bezels (squares) off with your fingers. I usually grab from the inside edge of the bezel.

You need to remove the screw on the uppper left side of the radio mount (behind the plastic square thing. Then pull out the harness and radio, there will be screws on the side of the radio holding it into the harness, unscrew them and it should be able to be removed from it. you may want to pull out the glove box too, it may help you to see behind it better if you desire.

Good luck...my '88 is still sick...

How do you get the plastic squares (filler panels) out? I am assuming they snap in? Once those are removed I can figure the rest out. I just didn't want to damage the square filler panels that surround the face of the radio.

oops, sorry i forgot that part.

use a flat head driver to pry them out...they simply snap in, but make sure you don't snap the legs off of one of them or they will not stay in. you will be able to feel the legs you need to put pressure on to have them snap out.

A good source for 240 radio/cd stuff is crutchfield. They have a Volvo face place kit and wiring harness just for 240s. Bought a CD player at Christmas and all that stuff came with it for free.

Actually the 240s are pretty easy to get the radios out - 740s are worse! Glad you got the $950 car - it sounds like a bargain!

Ok thanks guys. I will also try to take some more pics of the car today and post them. It is beautiful outside, so I am turning my computer off... haha. Talk to you later.
