Oil breater box question. 200

I just did the blow test on the breather box. Lots of air moving through the oil cap.

When checking this I noted that the area of the engine around the box, and about an inch up the side of the box has a layer of fairly fresh oil. If the O ring around the box is worn out, can it cause the mess I am seeing?

Yes, a bad O-ring under the box could cause it. I suppose a leak above the box somewhere could too. I think an old, loose-fitting hose on the breather box nipple could cause what you are seeing too. That would be an easy fix! I'd really inspect closely with a good light and mirror. Maybe clean the area up really well, and try a new hose or flame trap assembly, whichever connects onto the box nipple on your car, before pulling the box itself. Good luck.
