How do I change the air box thermostat? 700

I have the air box out of the car but can't get the valve assembly apart form the air box itself. I see a couple of tabs but the two plastic pieces seem to be joined perminately. The FAQ doesn't address this too much.

The thermostat has failed in the hot air position, but I caught it before the air mass meter died! What luck!

    Nevermind, I got it apart. Squired some windex down the sides and yanked.

        I just solved my rattling caliper problem on 89 740 with Girling. I will post as a new message. Please read it and if you think others may benefit, post in the FAQ.
