ScanTeck Pinion Seal...Opinions...over OEM? 200 1990

Bricksters,
While I have had some bad ScanTeck experiences, especially with gaskets and seals, every on-line parts search I do for the pinion seal turns out to be a ScanTeck part. Even at an all OEM Volvo parts site, the pinion seal is not OEM! Any one have any bad experiences with this particular part from ScanTeck... I just noticed the tell tale drip (very slow/slight) as I went to change the gear oil today so I apparently have another project on my hands. In this case, I dont own a huge breaker bar so I'll get the seal and oil and take it to my Volvo guy. Thanks in advance, Jon

ScanTeck Pinion Seal...Opinions...over OEM? 200 1990

One bad experience- we had a 93 244 in the shop (105K miles) which blew 3 scan-tech pinion seals. The final fix, on it's third trip back, was a Volvo OEM seal. Didn't hear anything more about that one leaking....
But on the other hand, we installed lots of those seals with NO problems. I don't know if there was a bad batch, an across the board problem, or a single problem car. I doubt most people pay much attention to a rear axle leak anyway, so failures are probably under-reported.

ScanTeck Pinion Seal...Opinions...over OEM? 200 1990

I know what you mean about Scan Tech being everywhere. The front seals I bought from IPD and Groton turned out to be the exact same seals, all Scan Tech. I went ahead and used them. Some Bricksters told me they had not had trouble with Scan Tech seals. However, I remain a little leery of their products, also.

HELP!!! Scan-tech Parts ...Run for your lives!! Seriously I've had alot of bad experiences.Never with their pinion seals but I suspect it's only because I've never had the guts to install theirs (or the time to redo the job).In my opinion Scan-tech = Steer-clear! No matter which seal you use put some sealer around the OUTSIDE edge, alot of them leak there.
