Can I put on a Harmonic Balancer on a B23? 200 1983

Eventually I plan to replace the York A/C compressor on my 83 245 with a rotory Diesel-Kiki I have stored in the doghouse at Mom's. I am going to go to the PickNPull and get the mountings for the compressor and power steering pump off an 85 or newer B230.
but what about the split pully on the B23? do i have to use it or can I replace it with a Harmonic Balancer ( Have a new ScanTech in storage)?
anyone done this?
Gracias,
el Raidman

Raidman NO! Don't I'm replacing one and it's a b*tch! Pretty hard to get the bolt off, besides being a pain in the butt, the rubber seperates and eventually you have to change it out like I'm doing now. Ok, I'll stop my wine and complain.. take care :-)

    Genaro,

Please let me know how your compressor upgrade project turns oout with regard to the pully. I pulled a DK compressor for use on my '84, but it never occured to me to yank the harmonic balancer from the donor car...

Anyhow, I did mount the DK in the '84. The pully slots seemed to align O.K., but the belt length is the challenge. A slightly longer one may be needed.

    Hi -

When all I had were B23 engined 240s, I hated that split pulley. Now I have B230F cars, and the old system was IMHO better. No special tool or rope trick was required, just spinal flexibility and care in not rounding those dipsquat soft metal nuts they use down there.

Seems to me it's a matter of relative pulley diameters, and thus belt length. Measure the diameters of all four, old drive, York, new drive and Diesel-Kiki. I don't know if the York is supposed to run faster or slower that the Diesel-Kiki, or then same, or if it makes much difference. It could work out that the B23 split pulley does just fine.

The center bolt on the B23 and B230 may or may not be the exact same diameter, pitch, and length. If I was a Volvo engineer, I would change nothing there, if possible. Maybe a BBRDer will send you at least the length of the bolt used on the B230. I would expect that diameter and pitch are the same.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

the crankshaft ends are completely different, how would you proopose to attach it, plus the pulleys wont line up, i would say an emphatic no you cant do it.
