Oil seperator question 200

Swapping a '90 B230 for my '83 B23, the oil sep. is taller than my original. Can I use the original shorter one since I'm using the B23 intake.
Also, where did I read about the flame trap relocation to the top of the intake? TIA, Mark

Oil seperator question 200

On my 81 J-Jet, relocating was easy. I used 5/8 ID PVC hose from the oil separator nipple up to a good location. Then stick a 2"-3" piece of 5/8 outside diameter copper plumbing pipe into the end of the hose. (De-burr the pipe first.) You've basically just moved the nipple on the breather box to a convenient location. The flame trap assembly goes over the exposed end of copper pipe. I found my copper pipe at my friend home construction site in the scrap pile. Plumbers use it all the time. Real cheap and real easy. Good luck.

Oil seperator question 200

Hey Breadman -

Use the taller oil separator. Get the other stuff from Sefeldt - just the first time. It takes a little "S" shaped hose, a new flame trap cup, a new trap-to-air hose vacuum tube, and then the little vacuum hose - use the old B23 one cut to length. Makes flame trap service a 15 minute do-it-in-your-Sunday-clothes job. Next time we meet, I'll try to have my 1988 so you can see how it all fits together.

Good Luck,

Bob

IPD sells a kit which relocates the flame trap to the top. It looks like it's something you can rig up. Places like Autozone sells hoses that are for oil use.

Cheers,

Yes, you may use the earlier oil trap. Volvo changed to the taller oil trap in the 1988 model year for 50,000 mile smog compliance

I also believe you can use either one because neither works. The proof is in the oil and carbon found in the intake system.

Of our four 700 series turbo cars, three run totally dry in the intake. One has some blow-by, and has oil in the intake.
