The old sender is 14x 1.5. Looking on egauges.com, I see the 5 bar sender for $85!! What about a smaller size sender w/ a bushing to fit the block? Would the smaller size affect the readings? I read awhile back the sender he needed is $30!!

The sender I have is a 1/8 - 28 NPT ( I think that is right, someone will confirm). I ordered the 1/8 -28 NPT x M14x1.5 adapter bushing and it works fine. I don't even have an elbow on there as it barely clears the alternator.
