Update: Car will run with AMM unpluged- not a mixture control problem? 200 1983

This is an update to a couple previous posts I have made.
I just got my 83 240 to run and drive (poorly) with the AMM unpluged I guess in the Limp-home mode. Does this mean that my AMM is bad? I have tried all possible mixture settings. With the AMM pluged in it will idle for a few seconds fine, then die. When it quits the fuel pump relay clicks rapidly or buzzes, one time the fuel pumps continued to run after it quit until I turned the key off.

Has anyone experienced this before, I could not find any other posts that sounded like this.
Thank you

your mass air meter is bad. Sending the ecm the wrong values you replace the meter your problem will be fixed.

You do know about the Thermostat for hot/cold intake air, inside the air filter housing rt. ? Make sure you chk. it. If you have allready replaced the AMM, disconnect the "pre-heat" hose from the exhaust manifold to the air filter hsg. until you can chk. the thermostat... Tom

I had that exact problem on my '84 except for the fuel pump problem. I swapped in a working AMM, and the car runs fine, so yes, your AMM is bad. I suspect that the fuel pump relay may be a separate issue.

Sounds just like what happened on my '88 when the AMM went south.
