Oil Leak, still 900 1993

Oil Leak, still

Hello
In an effort to seal up the oil leak problem in my 1993 945 Turbo ( 180k) I just did the timing belt, and oil seals. A few months ago I replaced the seals and o-rings in the distributer too. She still leaks. I have not jacked her up yet, but judging by the drips on the garage floor it seems to be coming from the drivers side, slightly rear of the oil pan. Could this leak be the oil filter mounting o-rings? I'm really hoping that it is not the rear main seal. Please tell me that it's not!
Thanks!

Chris in Buffalo

The large O ring at the base of the oil trap hardens and leaks. If this hasn't been replaced could be time to do so.

    Take care,

Have you replaced the flame trap? If not, and it is plugged, tends to build oil pressure. Might be a good idea to raise it and tighten all bolts on pans as per torque specs. If you give the underside a careful power wash then you may be able to see where the leak is. Happy hunting.

Don't sweat it too much until you can get underneath for a look. My turbo oil return line to the block is leaking a bit; the oil is all over the bottom of the engine/trans from that point back... so your drip spot could be deceiving.

Are your breather box, PCV fittings in good shape?

i ahve the same problem with my oil return line and have not had the time to replace. Just replaced exhaust system and it is already coated. Have been a little hesitant about replacing oil return line it seems like a real pain in the rear. Moles

oil return line leak easy to fix... 900 1993

Mine did too... but following the fix in the FAQ... I found this leak very easy to fix with just a little household silicon. Just clean it out with a spray solvent... let dry and then gunk it up with silicone with just a finger.

      Worked for me....

Good to know that fix has worked for you. I'm going to do something about the leak next time I change the oil - either your method, or the "proper" (PITA) replacement of the o-ring (already got a couple of 'em)... guess it will depend on how gung-ho I feel that day!
