Snowglobe vacuum/boost gauge 700

A few months ago the face of the instrument cluster vacuum/boost gauge became coated with a white powder. Looks like talcum powder. There were no engine vacuum symptoms, and the gauge still works fine. It's stock, and graduated. I haven't seen this in other 740s. It seems fairly accurate. Anyone know why this might happen? I'd expect it to be a blown diaphram if it stopped working, but it hasn't.

Thanks
Dylan

its possible you have a vac leak inside the guage itself, we have all seen the white resadue on out old hoses and hoses where vac doesnt flow in the same direction every time it just builds up inside the hose, this may have blowen through and into the guage, the guage will probly work still with a leak and theres still going to be vac but with a small leak.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check accuracy with my Mityvac. Best auto tool I own- great for clearing gunked up windshield washer nozzles.
