Overdrive Conversion 120-130

Greetings

I am in the process of installing an overdrive from a 72 142 into my 68 122. The doner trans unit has a silver rectangular box with a spade type electrical connector on the rear of the trans just behind and below the shifterassy/cover. It is not the backup light switch, or lock out switch, or overdrive solenoid. What else is ther?

Thanks
Chris

It is the backup light switch. If you check with a meter or continuity
tester you'll find that it goes to ground when the tranny is in reverse
(when the reverse shifter shaft comes back and touches the contact inside).
The relay coil is hot and the ground wire goes to that switch.
Sort of like a dome light switch.

Then what are the two switches on the cover?

Depending on the age of the tranny, one could be a 'nutral' switch - which I think has something to do with the seatbelt warning buzzers. The other is the 4th gear switch, which you must use in wiring up the OD.
