Tires. What would happen if...? 200

All,

What would happen to radial tires if they were rotated incorectly? Or a set of used tires were mounted on a car and their orientation got mixed up? My front tires went out of round fast. The brakes, suspention, and pressures all look good.

Thanks,

Mak

MM: Skip's absolutely correct! Rotating radials only to one side of the car went out about the time that the 'hot' tire (and about the ONLY radial) was the Michelin X. In fact, todays tire manufacturers specify that the tires be rotated around the car, as per usual (again, excepting the unidirectionals).

Many years ago you needed to be careful when rotating radials. If a left side tire ended up the right side, the tread might separate. New tire technology has eliminated that danger. The only time you need to be careful is with asymetrical tread designs where the in and out side are marked as well as the direction of rotation.

Yeah..my pride and joy. Nice shape already but I'm refreshing everything from bumper to bumper. Just did bushings, shocks/struts and brakes. Next is wiring harness, vacuum hoses and detailing under the hood. Plan to have it at the VCOA East Coast meet in Oct and maybe Carlisle in May. Just got new PA license plate "FLTHOOD"
