Steering shake 900 1992

Hello,
My steering shakes a "bit too much" when the speed is between 60-70mph. Before 60mph it is smooth. Above 70mph there is a slight but tolerable shake. Does anyone know why this might occur ? I remember someone asking a similar question before on this list but I couldn't find it.

Check/replace all front end bushings. I also wore out the inner tie rod on the left side and replacing that firmed up the front shimmy. I have 220k on mine and all the bushings in front have been replaced outer tie rods and now the inner rod. Rides nice now

I'm new to the 940, but learning fast thanks to a host of overdue maintenance items on my 139k mi unit. Everything I've read (and heard from my indie Volvo shop) says the 700/900 front end is weak in the lower strut control arm bushing area. I gather that Volvo has done a couple of redesigns to beef up the cone bushings but word is that they're still only good for maybe 50k mi. My steering was a little shaky on the highway, and the alignment shop couldn't get the front end aligned as the caster was too far off on one side. A new set of poly bushings and they got it lined up fine, and the wheel shake is gone. I rotated the tires (backs moved to the fronts) and that may also have been a factor.

In a rash move, I bought the IPD upper strut brace ("Cherry Turbo") and it fit perfectly (after hacksawing a big piece out of the EGR solenoid mounting bracket) over the upper strut studs, so there had been no structural movement of the towers. I say "rash" because for my relaxed driving style, this gadget will probably make no noticeable difference - but it looks kinda nice sitting in there.

Tires are the primary thing- look for bent wheels and balance issues.
Plan on replacing the control arm bushings (cone bushings) if they're old. Inspect tie rod ends and ball joints for wear. Any play = replace!

could be number of problems.
Look for buldge in tires, if everything is perfect, balace the tires.

Lift the car up and shake the wheels. Somtimes warn shock or suspension parts may cause the shake. Make sure tie-rod ends grease bushings are in good shape.
If everything above is in good shape, I would take a look at steering box.
