What is it? 200 1991

Yesterday we were doing a few "quality of life" and other procedures on the kid's '91 240. New VC gasket, door pockets, and replacement check straps for the glove box. As the temp was dropping below freezing I decided to pull the glove box out to fiddle with the straps indoors. So here's the question - once I pulled the box out, I noticed what appeared to be a huge capacitor (square metal case, unpainted) mwith a couple of relays attached, mounted under the dash and behind the glovebox. The cold overtook my intellectual curiosity and I didn't investigate further. What is it?

The radio amp sets right behind the jockbox. Some guys will leave there when they do an upgrade, some guys will take it out. If I recall it's about 4" x 3" x 6", or something like that.

It's not the amp - that sits down behind the center consoe on this car. I think Chris is probably right... Once the weather cooperates and I'm not commuting to Phoenix I'll figger it out.

    Hello,

The big metal-finish box would be the Jetronic computer and the white relay would be the famous fuel pump relay. Attached to the underside of the dash??? Or do you mean to the right side kick panel with the FPR attached to the firewall. If not, it could be part of some aftermarket stereo or other goodie installed by a previous owner. My first thought would be the computer. In any case, don't disconnect it, LOL!!!
