head lights not working 92 960 900

hi

yesterday the bulb failure lights came on. i checked and found both head lights are out, so ichanged them and the head lights still don't work. i checked fuses they are ok. but when i switch to high beam the head light works and bulb failure light goes off. when i switch to low beam light failure bulb comes on and head lights go off. so in other way only high beam is working.

thanks in advance for all the help.

This might be a longshot, but also check the turn signal/parking light bulbs to see if the two solder connections on the bottom aren't mashed together into a short. I had problems where the turn signals would not work with the headlights on, but would work with them off. ON, it fed current back into the circuit through the fused lamp base. Again, a long shot but a quick one to check.

I have not run into that failure yet, I checked my wiring diagram and it looks like if fuse no.;29,8,9,10,and 25,are good, and when you turn the headlights on terminal 2 on the headlight relay ( yellow wire ) turns on with a test light, then it is the headlight relay. You can't miss it, it is the biggest relay you have in the relay cluster. If however you have voltage coming out of your headlight relay, terminal no. 5 (green and white) then it is the dimmer switch in the column. I hope that helps you out.
