gauge questions 200 1984

hey guys... i just won an ebay auction for the 3 gauge bracket as well as an oil pressure gauge and a voltage gauge. they came out of a turbo and i'm now hoping that i can put them in my 84 non-turbo. is this a possibility? i'm also looking to fill the third hole in with an accessory tach, so if anyone has one that they'd be willing to part with as well as any wiring, let me know.

anyone with any info, please post! i'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will work.

thanks!!!

The local one around here charges 3 bucks a gauge. Just make sure you can exchange it if it doesn't work. Try the big clock to tach switch and put a small clock in the gauge holder.

Yes you can toss in a set of gauges in the top spot. You will have to run a full set of wiring for all the gauges, the Turbo cluster had a harness set-up. I have all 4 spots full. Clock, 5 bar Oil Pressure, Voltometer, 52mm Tach, though I do have the full tach in the insturment panel. And a Oil Temp gauge to which I am going to be getting a VDO 150C sending unit and put it in place of the stock temp sending unit. I also have a Fuel Econo gauge coming in the mail this week. So I need to toss the 52mm tach in a IPD pillar set-up. Ebay and such is the best spot to look for the small tach. Also, if you grab a Oil Pressure gauge grab the sender that goes with it. Good luck.

Hi Patrick,
I just wanted to let you know FYI. The VDO 150 C sender will work with the
gauge. However, you must make you own sender mounting because Volvo used
an oil drain plug sender. Well, I'll just buy the oil drain plug sender from
VDO you would think. Nope. Can't do. They only come with Metric threads
from VDO. The Volvo drain plug sender is 3/4 16 SAE thread. Specially made
for Volvo from VDO. You either have to buy the sender from Volvo or make
you own mounting setup for a VDO sender. Personally, I was going to drill out
an IPD oil drain plug, and thread it for the VDO sender. That way you are
duplicating the location that Volvo used. You can't use the stock temp
sender spot because that is for coolant not oil. Hope this helps. Nice dash,
happy rolling!

Hey Dave, guess I missed out by adding the work coolant (temp) sender, that is where I will be putting the VDO 150C sender at. I know it is for coolant and not oil. And, that is what I am looking for. Instead of that silly coolant gauge on the board and not having to tear apart the whole compensator panel, I can get an accurate reading of what my coolant is doing.

Thanx
Patrick

Hi Rock,
It will work, that is a popular addition to any brick. You need the oil pressure sender and you will need to fabricate a harness for the gauges. The key for markings on the gauges is
+ = needs power,
upside down "T" is to ground.
"G" gets hooked up to the "G" terminal of the sender

Sender markings
"G" goes to "G" terminal of the gauge
"WG" is for the warning light.

The lights of the gauge can be spliced into a brown wire that feeds the lights in the center console. The black wire on the lights gets spliced into the common ground.

I'm sure there are 2" tachs to be had if you look around.

"I'm sure there are 2" tachs to be had if you look around."

Used ones aren't that hard to find. If you are in a hurry though, they are also available new from Volvo. In my country, the dealer wanted the equivalent of ca. 55 USD.
