Get a 1/8-27 NPT sender and drill & tap a stock drain plug; done it lots.

Those temp senders are a pain to find. The 16 X 1.5mm is not even close. Dealer$ can get them if they feel like it but the cost is prohibitive. If you find a source please let us know, I have a few of the gauges sitting around uslessly waiting for senders.

There is an oil gallery plug in the front of the block just under the water pump that is threaded in 1/8" NPT, that would probably be your best bet.

sorry! I hit 'enter' instead of 'shift' and the subject was sent sans message.
Anyway, the car is an'82 240 GLT and I would like to put in an oil gauge. Egauges.com has a few different choices. I assume I'm looking for a metric sender; M16x1.5 would seem to be the closest to the original drain plug that they have listed. Anybody know?

The drain plug temp sender from Volvo is 3/4 16 SAE thread. Specially made
for Volvo by VDO. The easiest thing to do in my opinion is do what the first
post says. Buy a IPD oil drain plug. Remove the magnet and drill it out for
the oil temp sender. That way you can use a stock VDO sender. The VDO sender
I have is 14mm 1.5 thread. Same as a spark plug so I knew the tap would be
easy to get. There are a few different models of VDO senders. As long as
they are 150 C calibrated. You'll be able to tap the drain plug and use them. Hope this helps, happy rolling.

Thanks for the info.; looks like I'll have to tap another drain plug. I've got a tap for 1/8-27 NPT, so perhaps I will order the sender of that size.

I definitely want the 150c gauge- it's a Canadian car!
