RPM Sensors 200

Do these sensors typically crap out altogether or are there signs that the sensor is going to go bad?

Also, through searching the archives, people recommend the "white" band (found on the connector wire) as opposed to the older "yellow" band sensor. Is it just a longevity thing or are there other issues that the yellow band sensor has?

My '90 240DL has the yellow band. Trying to find a solution to my shaky idle.

Thanks,
Zuda

Clean your throttle body, and inspect your intake air hose from AMM to throttle for any holes- vacuum leaks and a sticky throttle plate are both likely causes of this. Of course, the B230 isn't known for idling smoothly in the first place...
That crank sensor should be replaced as well, but the other things are more likely needed right now.

RPM Sensors 200

Hi Rob,
Your reference to the crank/flywheel sensor,("should be replaced"). My 744 has 172K miles, should I replace the sensor to make sure it doesn't fail? It's my wife's car, must maintain, hate to have ANY problems with it(she would have to use MY wagon).

Thanks for the reply.

The intake hose is new, throttle body is clean. Sticky throttle plate? I assume sticking while coming off idle. Will have to double check.

When I bought the car last summer it would occaisionally stall while coming to a stop. Would start right up when it happened. At the time my intake hose was like swiss cheese, brake booster is leak free, and it seemed to only happen on a half tank (probable pre-pump hose deteriorating). Some stalls over the winter months but very rarely...

Will replace the RPM sensor since it's a wear item. Are you familiar with the differences in white vs. yellow marking? I'm trying to search the web for Bosch specification sheets but can't find any whatsoever!

Thanks,
Zuda
