have you ever had a motorvac done? 200 1983

Hi,

I'm tracking down the source of my engine pinging - though I'm going to check the vacuum lines this weekend, I am curious about the effect of Motorvac-ing on the engine.

I just picked up a book that mentioned excessive carbon buildup as a possible source of pinging. I'm considering having that procedure done (after checking vacuum lines).

Anybody had any success with this? (BTW, i'm already running premium gas, so I can't go any better with that).

Thanks!

Susan

Had a nice chat with a indie Volvo shop owner yesterday, and that subject came up. Before going that route, I would recommend using Techron in the fuel. He said that would help. MotorVac is a treatment with Industrial Strength cleaner.

Start this when you are planning to drive over 100 miles. Works best when engine is well heated.

When the gas gauge is in the red, add a 12 oz can of Techron. Fill tank. Drive the tank down to the red. Do it again.

Burn premium Shell or Chevron for more better additives.

Have you replaced the knock sensor?

Is the engine in time? Timing belt on correctly - not one tooth off on the intermediate shaft?

    Good Luck,

    Bob

      Hi Bob,

thanks for the good ideas - I just looked at the Haynes (don't have a bentley right now) to find the location of the knock sensor..... it looks like it's behind the distributor cap area....I'll have to check that out.

AM I in the right general area - I hate the illustrations in haynes and I want to be sure i'm not goofing around with the wrong sensor.

      thanks!

        Susan -

Try the bentley manual. It is a real nice.

the bentley states( for chrysler/volvo ignition) the loction is:

"is mounted on the engine block between the 2nd & 3rd cylinder below the intake manifold"

        hope this helps
